Back to squash

Dear member,

From Saturday 25th July, the courts will be open again for playing. The court booking system is available to use now, but there are changes to court times, costs, and the way the courts can be used.

The bar will also be open on Thursday evenings and would be a good opportunity to come to the club for a social drink and familiarise yourself with the new rules. The new opening times are:

Thursday and Friday 7pm

Saturday and Sunday 6pm

Our paramount concern is to ensure that our members and club volunteers can enjoy playing as safely as possible. We have followed the England Squash and Government guidelines to implement the changes at the club. The aims are to reduce the number of people arriving and leaving at the same time and to ensure that the courts are in a suitable condition for the next players.

The main points are below:

Initially, the courts will only be available Thursday – Sunday. This way we can review our safe playing processes and cleaning practices are working and make any changes where necessary. As and when demand increases and we are confident that guidelines are being followed and we can maintain an appropriate cleaning regime, the club will look at open the courts on more days.

Courts booking times have changed to every hour and have staggered starting times. Court 1 is available from 10.00 and Court 2 from 10.30. Playing time on court will be 45 minutes, which leaves 15 minutes for the players to remove their kit from the court and clean any ‘contact points’ before the next players arrive on court. Guidance on what can be brought on court is below.

Courts can only be used if booked online. Both players names must be on the booking for ‘Track and Trace’ purposes. There is no need to check in on the screen – we need to minimise contact points.

During the 15 minutes after play stops, the players will be asked to clean any areas of the door that they may have touched using the spray and wipes provided by the club.

All court fees have changed to £3. This is temporary until we can resume normal playing conditions.

We encourage members to bring essential supplies to treat minor injuries (instead of using the club first aid kit) and take a phone in case of emergency.

There should be no more than two players on court any time.

Members from the same household or support bubble can play a full squash game.

Individuals can do solo routines or practice.

Two members from different households (not in a support bubble) can only play modified versions of squash. Examples of these games will be displayed on posters in the club. A video of Sides from England Squash and the full guidelines is available via this link: https://www.englandsquash.com/backtosquash

When arriving and leaving the club please follow these points:

• Arrive promptly (no more than 5 mins ahead of playing) and leave immediately after playing.

• Use hand sanitiser on arrival and departure.

• No handshaking/physical contact and always maintain social distancing.

• Bring own water bottle and arrive at the club with it full.

• Bring own towel to wipe away sweat.

Do not wipe hands on court walls.

• Bring your own balls and racket.

• Bring a change of shirt if you are prone to sweat a lot.

• Take your kit bag and water bottle on court.

• Players to arrive at the club in kit, ready to play and they should shower at home.

More guidance will be communicated before we reopen the courts on the 25th and Garrie will send out information regarding coaching.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact either Dan or Garrie or any committee member.

Regards

The Committee
