Playing squash again - Phase 1 reopening guidelines

Dear member,

The day has finally arrived when we can go back on court! This is great news for all of us players, even if things won't be the same as pre-lockdown.

The committe members have put in a huge amount of work to get to this stage. If everyone who plays at the club during this time adheres to the guidelines we will be able to keep the courts open and progress through the phases to a resumption of 'normal' playing conditions.

The club are not being 'kill joys' by implementing these conditions. Quite the opposite. With these guidlines in place, those who want to get back on court can.

Please read through the guidlines below, book some courts and together we can ensure that we can keep playing.

Phase 1 playing guidelines:

Both courts will be open for play, but the changing rooms will be closed. Access to the balcony is closed except to Club coaches

The ladies toilet in the corridor opposite the courts will be open for male use, ladies will use the toilet in the ladies changing room.

Spare balls and grips will be available when the bar is open.

Showers will not be available.

All court use must be pre booked online. Walk ins are not permitted.

By booking a court all players agree to abide by the phase 1 reopening guidelines.

A maximum of 2 players per court is allowed. Both players must be noted on the booking system to facilitate contact tracing in the event of an infection.

This will ensure there are never more than 4 players in the building at one time.

You may also book a court for single practice. If a court requires maintenance it will be booked by the Club.

Checking in is not required.

Court 1 will always be booked on the hour, i.e. 10am 11am etc.

Court 2 will always be booked on the half hour, i.e. 10.30am 11.30am etc.

Court time will be 45 minutes, plus 10 minutes to wipe down all surfaces indoors that you have touched.

This allows players for each court to arrive and leave without meeting.

The fee for all court sessions is £3 at all times. This a temporary measure and will be kept under review.

Doubles sessions are not permitted

Players arriving late will have reduced playing time. Over running is not allowed.

Only players of the same household or support bubbles are allowed to play full squash matches. All other players from separate households must adhere to the England Squash recommended guidance and adhere to social distancing measures at all times. Examples of training drills are shown below:

If players arrive early, they must wait outside, clear from the door and exit route until their appointed time.

Please arrive dressed to play, bring your own water and a minimum of personal effects. Please bring a charged phone, which you keep on the court during play, just in case you injure yourself while playing. We encourage members to bring essential supplies to treat minor injuries instead of using the club first aid kit.

If a player feels ill, even if it is just a sniffle, they must cancel and not turn up.

If you think you have Covid symptoms, let the Covid coordinator know.

On arrival

Use the hand sanitiser outside the front door.

Change footwear in the corridor.

Nominate one player to be the person who touches switches, door handles etc and handles the ball.

Please minimise the touching of any surfaces within the building.

Insert money or token in the meter on time. It is important to keep the timings in sync.

Hand sanitise again before entering the court.

Enter the court and put all kit at the front of the court against the tin.

Enjoy your game!!

Please try to avoid touching the walls.

Do not leave the court during your session except in emergency.

When the lights go out, take your kit and leave the court immediately.

The nominated player must wipe down all surfaces that have been touched before they leave with the spray and wipes in the cleaning caddy outside the court door.

Dispose of used wipes in the bin

Change footwear, sanitise hands and leave by the corridor fire exit.

If you want a drink after your session, please do not sit the bar in your squash kit.

Please put on a track suit or use one of the chairs outside and wipe it down after use.

It is extremely important that the Club does everything it can to keep members safe. This guidance is based on England Squash and HMG guidance.

Please follow the rules to keep your fellow members safe
